I'm writing my review after my second visit and my initial impressions of this restaurant still holds.
Originally I was going to another nearby express hibachi restaurant before work, but they had about a 15 min wait and closed in 45 minutes (leaving me 30 mins to eat). I did a quick Yelp search and found this restaurant close by and decided to give them a shot. I'm glad I did!
This is your local "hole-in-the-wall" Asian restaurant that's hidden in the Publix plaza, but offers so much more. The atmosphere is a bit distracting with all the changing colored lighting, but I think it gives it a more "modern" feel, in contrast to the traditional rigid dark brown booths you come to expect from Asian restaurants. Surprisingly they play traditional Asian ballad music (think Michael Buble, but in Chinese?), instead of your normal Top 40 or instrumentals.
Enough about the atmosphere and onto the food. As the name implies, it's hibachi express: no show, no thrills, no flaming onion volcanoes, you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The food here is really affordable, a chicken & steak hibachi with plain fried rice, veggies, and a tiny ginger salad is $13, and add a soup for $1.50! Most other hibachi restaurants start around $20 for the same meal. As I said, the salad is really tiny, basically a cup with 5 pieces of lettuce and a tomato slice with more than enough dressing to drown your salad. I tried the Clear Soup the first time and Miso the second. The Clear Soup is miles ahead of the Miso unfortunately. The Clear Soup was loaded with mushrooms and you could taste the flavors of the mushrooms with subtle sweet & saltiness you expect of Clear [Onion] Soup. The Miso Soup looks exactly what you'd expect of it, but it lacks in taste. There was no saltiness to the broth and tasted only like tofu & seaweed that was placed into warm water.
Now the hibachi is why you're eating here and in terms of quality, it's not the best, but also not the worst. It's a little better than what I'd expect from a restaurant if this type. Both times I had the chicken & steak and both times it's been a little on the dryer side. Luckily, the chicken & steak is tossed in a bit of black pepper and teriyaki sauce to add to the taste. However, what it lacks in quality (compared to Kobe or Benihana), it makes up for in quantity. You still get about the same amount of food as the larger restaurants, one entree is enough to feed two people. Both times I've had to take my food to work with me (not that that's a bad thing).
Overall, this is an amazing local hibachi restaurant with friendly staff. If I had to choose between here and Kobe, would I rather spend $30 at Kobe or $15 here? If I was celebrating something special or with a large group, Kobe in a heartbeat, but for an everyday meal that leaves me full and happy, I'm glad I found this Hibachi Express. -

Yummy food for the price. Filling too. Their lunch specials are great. Soda and a plate for $7 and some change.

This is absolutely our favorite restaurant! The food is always, always amazing and huge portion sizes! We love how affordable it is and come back at least once a week. This is the only review I've written on yelp, but wanted to give this place their well-earned recognition--we dream about this place (which is dangerous since we live 5 minutes away) thank you, we will see you soon!

This brand new restaurant provides some excellent Asian food at a great price. Not only does the hibachi taste delicious but the sushi and sides like gyoza are top notch. Everything is made with minimal wait and the staff is extremely friendly and courteous. The location itself is newly renovated and very clean. All in all a fantastic place to cure those hibachi cravings! Definitely coming back to support!
